Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England, now Historic England

Institution

has description | a une description
A non-departmental public body, established by the National Heritage Act 1983, to preserve the national heritage and educate the public about it. The change of names and functions of this body can cause confusion. For some years after its creation, it was known as English Heritage. However, after a major reorganisation i 2015, most of its functions were taken over by Historic England, while a charitable organisation called the English Heritage Trust manages just over 400 sites and monuments.
