- The National Trust is charitable organisation which was incorporated by statute, the National Trust Act 1907. This law have the National Trust the right to hold lands and buildings inalienably, as in, without the possibility of their being sold, mortgaged or otherwise changing ownership, without an Act of Parliament. The National Trust was formed through the enthusiasm of heritage and environmental protectionists, and when it was formed, it supplemented the work of the Office of Works, the official guardian of ancient monuments in the UK. Since then, the laws governing the National Trust have changed several times, and in 2024, it is governed by the Charities (National Trust) Order 2005.
