Lever, William, 1st Viscount Leverhulme

Lever's wealth was generated principally through the manufacture and sale of soap and cleaning products. In the early twentieth century, Lever Brothers developed a number of colonial plantations in the Belgian Congo and the Solomon Islands, operated by subsidiary firms called Huileries du Congo Belge and Lever’s Pacific Plantations Limited, to provide the raw materials for manufacturing soap.
