The town has lodged a complaint
France bleu Loire-Océan gathered the reaction of Bruno Retailleau, president of the Les Républicains group in the Senate and a native of Vendée: he condemned "an unacceptable attack on the town's heritage and on French history". In his opinion, "this rise in symbolic violence against the great figures of our country is very worrying. This is not simply vandalism inspired by an anachronistic vision of history. It's also an expression of the civic sickness affecting an increasingly fractured French society. War of memories, war of religions, war of the sexes... Today, the very essence of the French people threatens to dissolve. Anything that weakens our national unity must be fought without weakness.
The statue will be cleaned by the municipal services and restored by a specialist firm between October 26 and November 19, 2020. Two coats of micro-crystalline wax will be applied to protect it.
