Atelier 45 was founded in Fort-de-France in 1945 by three Martinican painters: Raymond Honorien, Marcel Mystille and Germain Tiquant, following the enthusiasm generated by an exhibition of their work in the spring. The aim was to promote the training of Martinican artists and to participate in the post-war artistic and intellectual effervescence in Martinique, spurred on by the presence of artists on the island during the war and the creation of the magazine Tropiques by Suzanne and Aimé Césaire, René Ménil, Aristide Maugée and Lucie Thésée.
