Joséphine was moved from the center of the park to its north-western edge, parallel to Rue de la Liberté. The relocation of Joséphine was an integral part of an urban grammar that Aimé Césaire (then mayor of Fort-de-France) and his city council had put in place to cannibalize colonial sites and symbols of power in the capital.
