1962, Inauguration of the statue of Voltaire, square Honoré Champion, Paris

Event

has description | a une description
Decided in 1946, the replacement of the Voltaire statue, recast in 1941, with a new stone version, commissioned by the French government from the sculptor Léon-Ernest Drivier, dragged on. The academicians rejected the new statue as too modern, and the replacement site in the Square Honoré Champion initially seemed too modest. The inauguration finally took place in early 1962.
